Bouvet Island Bouvet Island is an uninhabited island known as the most remote island in the world, located in the South Atlantic Ocean southwest of South Africa. This inactive volcanic island is only 49 square kilometres and is 93 percent covered by a glacier. Designated as a nature reserve in 1971, Bouvet Island is an important breeding ground for 3 types of penguins and other seabirds, as well as the southern elephant seal and Antarctic fur seal. Orca and humpback whale can also be seen in the nearby waters. |
